TYPES OF EMPLOYMENTS

(i) Income Generation of Families of Children with Disabilities

In 2008 the Bangladesh Protibondhi Foundation and Job Placement Ltd commenced a zero interest micro-credit project. The project focused on providing cattle for milk production for the most marginalized families. One prime difference is that the cattle would belong to the children with a disability and their mothers. Their mothers are responsible for the care and keep it up and refund the initial loan with no interest and thus. Gradually the money is rolling within the hard core poor children.

Till now BPF disbursed the money among 296 families. The extended family now benefited from the additional income. Repayment of loan over 3 years with the first 6 months repayment free.

Objective

The prime objective of the project was to empower young people with a disability thus overcoming dependency and poverty.

Impact

The financial support has brought positive impact on the life style of the children, their mother and families which has helped to overcome the dependency and poverty and also to empower themselves within the community.

(II) Employment of Persons (18 years+) with Disabilities

November 2010 Job Placement, Australia, hosted Dr Shamim Ferdous, Executive Director of BPF for 10 days to learn the processes of Job Placement uses to assist people with disability into employment in the open labor market. She was very impressed with their operation and has adapted their procedures to fit the cultural and labor market demographics of our country. Job Placement has been supported this program till now. To date 22 people have found employment in business in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. One young man is working full time in a computer monitor repair shop. The other placement is a young man who has been offered a position as an administration assistant at Desh TV, the third most popular television station in Dhaka. Seven young people are working in an optical shops and another one in an export and import office. In rural 188 persons are enrolled in different employment sectors. This is an ongoing program BPF has started job placement program for adult students (above 18 years) in different job sectors.
